Hello!
My name is Ian Langworthy, and I have been organising and leading battlefield tours for more than 25 years.
After a 40 year career as a solicitor I now indulge what was a hobby on a formal and professional basis. I have had a lifetime interest in history generally and military history in particular. I have a Masters degree (MA) in military history from the University of Buckingham. My dissertation concerned Anglo-French relations in the Crimean War.
I have experience of guiding groups of all ages and backgrounds from primary and secondary schools (including at A level) army cadets, U3A and other adult groups including visitors from the United States, Australia and New Zealand and also with friends and family.
What can I offer?
I aim to bring the battlefields to life. I offer itineraries designed with you to suit you and your group.
I can arrange visits to sites and cemeteries with your groups family connections which I can research on your behalf.
I encourage participation whilst on tour so that you and your group get the most out of it.
I have a wide range of interest and experience in battlefield sites both in the UK and Europe;
- World War 1 on the western front (France and Belgium)
- World War 2 in western Europe (including Dunkirk, Dieppe, Normandy, Arnhem (a Bridge too Far) Battle of the Bulge.
- The Wars of the Roses
- The English Civil War
- The 1815 Napoleonic Campaign (Quatre Bras, Ligny, Waterloo)
I am an Accredited member of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides
I would be pleased to speak to or meet you on a no obligation basis to discuss your requirements and to provide a quotation.
